From 1880 to 2012, the UN recorded a 0.85 degrees Celsius increase in the average global temperature. We know climate change is real and will cause permanent problems in our world if not taken seriously. Having said that, stay calm! There are numerous ways in which an individual can make a difference.

Climate advocacy is done by many, and YOU can get involved through the following organizations!

Earthjustice:

As a nonprofit environmental law organization serving the public interest, Earthjustice combines the power of law and the strength of national partnerships to protect people’s health, preserve natural resources and promote clean energy.

They aim to end the extraction and burning of fossil fuels, power everything with 100 percent clean energy and secure clean air and water as rights for every individual.

When joining Earthjustice, teens will contribute their time and ideas to offices and programs located in various states to strengthen the organization.

350.org

350.org is an international network of everyday people committed to ending fossil fuel use and building up a world of renewable energy. It all started in 2008 with a group of passionate university friends and has now become a global collaboration of activists, community groups, and regular individuals fighting against fossil fuels.

Moreover, teens can add in their efforts by making peaceful protests, writing informative articles, and organizing their own advocacy for climate change.

Greenpeace USA:

In the world of environmental activism, Greenpeace is a network of independent campaigning groups that uses creative communication and protest to expose global environmental problems and promote sustainable solutions that will lead us to a brighter future.

Greenpeace USA has a volunteer platform for teens to contribute their work and connect with other activists, volunteers, and groups to eliminate global warming.

Youth Climate Action Team (YCAT):

YCAT is a global, youth-powered nonprofit that advocates climate justice across the world. Its partners include organizations involved in activism, empowerment of women, and youth service groups related to climate change, both directly and indirectly.

YCAT is a huge organization that offers many initiatives for teens to join in on. When teens are actively participating and working hard to end climate change, they are contributing themselves and their passions to better the world.

The following are some examples of YCAT’s teams and projects:

  • Climate Extracurricular Education (CEE) Subcommittee
  • Communications
  • Student Network Committee (SNC)
  • Press
  • Social Justice Literacy Initiative (SJLI)
  • Comms x Press Joint Project
